If you have been keeping tab of Zero Edge’s cameras you probably know the Z-Edge Z3 dash cam that was voted the best on Wirecutter in 2016. Even today, there’s barely any other single channel camera that can match the Z3, save for the Z3 Plus (Z3P). This newer model improves on almost everything that its predecessor (the Z3) has to offer.
Instead of the 2K resolution of the Z3 now you get 2.5K. The 1450 field of view has now increased to 1550. The 3-inch LCD screen on this new model is more than sufficient to offer crystal clear images. Plus it has an energy-saving mode that switches the display off automatically thanks to a timer function that allows you to pre-set display time. You can also turn audio recording on or off with just a single button. That is to say, the Z3 Plus has everything that the Z3 has plus some more handy features. Here are some of the key ones:
The dash cam is fitted with the latest CMOS image sensor and an Ambrella A12 chipset that record videos in Ultra HD of 2.5K resolution. In more specific terms, the video is 2560 x 1440P at 30 frames per second (FPS). You can also use the camera to capture still photos of 16 megapixels.
Wide viewing angle:
With the Z3P you get a viewing angle of 155 degrees. That is enough to cover a long stretch of the road ahead and the area around the front of your vehicle. One good thing about this dash cam is that even with that wide angle the images are not distorted.
Superior night vision:
The high dynamic range (HDR) technology used in this dash cam has outstanding ability to compensate for high/low light. It balances light/dark spots and exposure in the same way that the human eye does. That explains why it might easily be the best dash cam for night use. On top of that, the camera has six glass lenses that reduce glare during the day and at night.
This camera starts recording automatically when you switch the ignition on. It stops automatically when ignition goes off. However, there is a built-in G-sensor that triggers automatic recording whenever the dash cam senses a crash, motion or vibration. It does so even when ignition is off. This 24/7 parking mode ensures that the camera captures any incidents or accidents that might occur when your car is off.
The Z3 Plus is a very compact and discrete unit. It weighs just one pound and measures 6.1 by 3.8 by 3.2 inches. Once you install it you won’t even remember that it is there.
Efficient data management:
The camera uses loop recording where new files overwrite the oldest files automatically when the SD card is full. There are both manual and automatic data protection methods to ensure that you don’t lose valuable videos or photos.
When you order the Z3 Plus it comes as a complete package. The parts include a suction mounting gear, the camera itself, a 32GB Kingston SD memory card, 13-foot long USB cable and a dual port USB adapter. You won’t need to add anything else for this unit to work. But if you want more storage space you can purchase a SD memory card with a larger capacity. The camera supports up to 128GB.
- Mounts easily on the windshield.
- Very small and discrete.
- Amazing video and picture quality.
- Comes with a z edge z3 manual.
- 30-day money-back guarantee and 18-month warranty.
- You get lifetime support from the manufacturer.
You can’t mount this camera on the windshield. The suction mount is not designed for that, and if you do the videos and photos will be upside down. If you prefer your dash cam on the dashboard that will certainly be an inconvenience. Other than that, this unit is undoubtedly in the running to becoming the best dash cam brand.
