Description

Introduction

Garmin’s Dash Cam 55 is one of the most high-tech dashboard cameras in the market today. With its ultra HD, Wi-Fi, GPS, voice control and tons of other handy features, it certainly stands out against other models.

Don’t worry, it packs all of these high tech features into a sleek, slim, almost artist car camera. It is actually a very small and compact gadget that measures 56.2 x 35.3 x 40.5mm. The screen is only 2 inches, so it is not obstruct your view as you drive. Even so, it delivers footage at an impressive 2.5K resolution.

Mounting the Dash Cam 55 is very easy. It attaches to the windshield using two adhesive pads, one for your car and the other for the dash cam. The mounting kit comes with the package together with a 64GB microSD card, universal screen cleaning, and an ultra-compact carrying case. That’s why this dash cam is called a bundle package.

Main Features

Stealthy design

If you want a dash cam that you can conceal easily then go for the Garmin 55. Apart from the whole unit (including the mount) being small, its lens doesn’t stick out too much, so that it is visible to people who are outside the vehicle.

Up to 2.5K video resolution

This 3.7 megapixel camera captures videos with an impressive super HD resolution of up to 2560 x 1440P (2.5K) at 30 frames per second. You can adjust that to 1920 x 1080 at 60 frames per second or even take it lower to 720P if you need to conserve storage space.

The audio ON/OFF function means you can enable or disable audio recording any time you wish.

As most dash cams record videos and audios, that’s probably not big news, but the Garmin Dash Cam 55 offers an extra thing that other cameras don’t – Travelapse. This amazing feature ensures that the dash cam takes still photos after a fixed time interval (simultaneously with the video). It then stitches them together nicely to create a photo album that looks like images being played in fast forward.

What a perfect, hands off way to get some spectacular images from your road trip or family outings!

Extensive safety features

While all the other features are well executed and beneficial to any driver, it is probably the security warnings of the Garmin Dash Cam 55 that make it a top-notch in-car companion.

  • Its forward collision warning will alert you if your car is moving too close to the one in front of you to the point of risking a collision.
  • The GO alert is useful when you are in traffic. It will notify you when the car in front starts to move so that you resume driving. That’s a pretty handy function for those who occasionally lose concentration when traffic is not moving.
  • There’s also a lane departure warning that lets you know when you stray from your lane.
  • Additional alerts include warning systems for when you are approaching red lights or speed cameras.

Those two require you to buy Cyclops subscription and link it with your Garmin Dash Cam 55 software.

Convenient voice control

Another exclusive yet essential feature of the Garmin Dash Cam 55 is ability to execute voice commands. It understands such instructions as OK, START and STOP, making it possible for you to control the dash cam even with both your hands on the wheel.

If you say START it will initiate video recording or photo taking. You then say STOP to cease recording and OK to save.

GPS

The GPS module in the Garmin 55 records your exact location and speed at any given time. Although you have the option of disabling it, it’s probably wise not to. In case of an accident or incident you may need to prove where you were and how fast you were driving. Plus it will help you keep track of your vehicle whenever someone else drives it.

G-sensor

With its sensitive G-sensor, the Garmin 55 dash cam can automatically detect impact, after which it will save and lock all the footage just before and after the incident. That will help you know exactly what happened to your car, especially when it is parked and there’s nobody to watch over it.

Pros

  • Has Wi-Fi
  • Records high-quality videos of up to 2.5K resolution
  • Exclusive safety features
  • Well-designed for use in any car
  • Backed by the strong Garmin brand

Cons

The one thing that discourages some people from buying the Garmin Dash Cam 55 is its price. It’s a high-end model, that’s why it’s a bit pricier than an average dash cam.

It does pack a wide array of features though, including Wi-Fi, GPS, voice command, and security alerts. Since you will be getting all of them in a single package, it makes more sense to by this dash cam rather than having to install each of those features individually.

With the Garmin 55 you’ll be saving yourself  time, money, and getting peace of mind while you’re out on the road.
