Description

The Garmin dash cam 45 is everything you would need in your car. Unlike some of the other dashboard cameras, the Garmin 45 is small and inconspicuous upon mounting on the windshield, which makes it effective at getting the job done. The camera is easy to mount with a clamp and magnetic mount at the top that holds it in place even when you’re driving off tarmac.

It comes with a free class 10 replaceable MicroSD memory card. Alternatively, you can buy internal storage up to 32 GB for the SDHC class, and 64 GB for SDXC can last you for over 24 hours without having to delete the old videos automatically with continuous power supply.

When not connected to the charge, the small cam battery can last up to 30 minutes, so it is safe to keep it on charge mode always (a useful feature during a collision that interrupts the electrical system). One of the best things about the Garmin Dash Cam 45 is its ability to detect red lights, speed cameras, forward collision and lane departure. It will give you a warning in all those instances and help minimizing the risk of accidents.

Garmin Dash Cam 45 Main Features

High-quality HD videos

With a 2.1 megapixel lens, the camera records 1080P with so much ease in all lighting conditions, including at night. You can view real time footage on the fitted 2-inch LCD display. If you love the Travelapse feature you can use it to compress videos to a smaller, shareable size.

GPS

The built-in GPS records your location, direction, speed, time and date. All that information may come to use in case of an accident or incident.

Parking monitor

For a small fee you can purchase the parking monitor as a separate addition to the dash cam. It will trigger recording when your vehicle is parked and the ignition is off.

Excellent construction

This dash cam is not just sleek, it also conceals easily. It has dimensions of 2.2 x 1.4 x 1.6 and weighs 2.08 pounds. Unless someone is inside the vehicle they won’t be able to see it.

Phone sync

You can link your smartphone with the Garmin Dash Cam 45 thanks to the built-in Wi-Fi module and VIRB mobile app. Syncing the two devices makes it easier to share videos with friends, legal authorities and insurance agencies.

Driver awareness

The dash cam will notify you when you are driving too close to another car, deflecting from your lane or approaching traffic lights/speed cameras.

Pros

  • Easy to mount
  • Uses Garmin’s firmware version 2.70 which is very reliable
  • Affordable
  • High video quality
  • Wireless connection and Garmin VIRB app make it easy to sync and access the videos on the phone
  • Availability of the firmware version updates

Cons

The Garmin Dash Cam 45 is almost flawless. However, its Wi-Fi function is not compatible with some devices, so you may want to check with their website first to ensure that your smartphone is listed.

Additionally, the driver awareness feature may be too sensitive and consequently irritating to some people. But you can always adjust that sensitivity. Such customizable settings largely contribute to the Garmin 45 dash cam’s good reputation.
