About the GiiNii Brand

GiiNii was founded in 2007. At the time, the company dealt primarily in digital picture frames. By 2009 it had sold over one million units, making it the world’s leading manufacturer of the frames.

A year later, in 2010, the company diversified its products to include portable scanners. Following overwhelming support from consumers, GiiNii introduced more products to its already luxurious brand. Today, the company manufactures a variety of portable consumer electronics that include digital photo frames, scanners, chargers, speakers and, most importantly to our context, dash cams.

GiiNii operates based on the idea that technology should be easy to access and use by ordinary people. It is only through that policy that gadgets can make a difference in people’s daily lives. And true to their word, the company makes some of the most affordable and usable devices, particularly their dash cams.

GiiNii Dash Cam

One of the best things about GiiNii’s dash cams is that they are practical to the ordinary car owner or driver. They feature a compact and discreet size, interactive interface, easy mounting procedure and affordable price tag. Here are a few specific reasons why the dash cam brand attracts a very loyal customer base:

  • Software updates and user manuals are available online for free.
  • GiiNii sells accessories too (car mounts, charger and power cable), so you can get the full package and replacements under one roof.
  • Fast support online and on phone. You can reach them via email using the address [email protected] or by calling 1 (866) 909-3550.
  • There are over six dash cam products to choose from.
  • GiiNii makes both single and dual channel dash cams.

Perhaps the biggest advantage of shopping the GiiNii brand of dash cams is that they come with varying prices and capabilities, which makes it easy to choose a model with the exact features that you want and within your budget range.

Such features include G-sensor, loop recording, parking mode, night vision, driver awareness alerts, etc. – whatever you deem too important to compromise, there’s a GiiNii dash cam that has it. But the wide variety can also make it a tad bit hard to pick just one from all the offerings.

That’s why we have selected to review two of the very best. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the choices you can go with either one of them.

GiiNii Dash Cam Review: The Top Two Picks

  1. GiiNii GD 188x Dash Cam

The GiiNii GD-188X is a dual channel dashboard camera that records the front and rear views of your vehicle. But with just one push of a button you can turn the read camera off and leave the front one on.

An easy-to-mount unit, the GD-188X box includes a suction cup that attaches to the windshield. Also included in the package is a 3-meter long power cable that runs all the way to the cigarette lighter. With such a long cable you can install this dash cam on pretty much any vehicle, including trucks.

Below are the standout features:

The front lens captures 1080P videos, which is just higher than the 720P of the rear lens. Videos come with accompanying audio but you can turn the audio function off if you wish. The fitted 3-inch LED screen allows you to view real-time footage as well as playback videos.

Night recording:

The GD-188X dash cam uses an infrared (IR) sensor to videos in low lighting conditions. That accounts for its crispy clear night footage.

Viewing angle:

The total field of view of this GiiNii dash cam is 270 degrees – 135 degrees for each individual camera. Perhaps more impressively is the fact that the rear camera can swivel through 360 degrees. You can point it literally anywhere.

This dash cam uses a microSD of up to 32GB. It records videos in a continuous loop, allowing the newest footage to overwrite the oldest automatically when the memory card fills up.

Besides great performance, the small size of the GiiNii GD-188X makes it a good dash cam. With dimensions of 7.5 x 4.5 x 2.5 inches and weight of 11.2 ounces, it conceals effortlessly.

G-sensor and Parking Mode:

In case of a collision the dash cam will save and lock all the critical footage that you may need for evidence. The same goes when the vehicle is parked. The parking monitor will trigger a short recording of the events (in case of an impact or detected movement) so that you don’t miss a single detail.

But the motion sensor could be a little more sensitive. It doesn’t always trigger a recording even when someone passes right in front of the vehicle. Also, the package doesn’t include a memory card, you will have to budget for that separately.

In sum, the

Giinii dash cam GD 188x is an awesome purchase, not just because of the strong GiiNii brand but also because it is a top performer and comes with the complete gd 188x user manual.

  1. GiiNii GD-161 Dash Cam

In case you’re working with a smaller budget or you just don’t like the idea of a dual dash cam you can consider purchasing the GiiNii GD-161. It’s the same brand as the GD-188X, the only difference is that you will have a forward facing camera only (no rear camera). So how does this single channel dash cam compare with the GD-188X?

A 1.2 megapixel camera, the GD-161 records 720P videos at 30 frames per second (fps) or 1080P videos at 25 fps. You can view real-time action or playback footage on the 2-inch LCD display. The camera records audio alongside videos but you can turn this function off.

Night recording:

Although the GD-161 doesn’t have a dedicated night vision function (like LED, infrared or wide dynamic range), the highly sensitive CMOS sensor varies exposure depending on lighting conditions. That is why the dash cam records high quality footage at night.

Viewing angle:

With a 120-degree field of view, this dash cam offers a panoramic view of the road ahead as well as substantial areas around the front of the vehicle.

The GD-161 accepts microSD and microSDHC memory cards where it stores videos in continuous loops. Each recording comes with a time and date stamp. The maximum storage capacity is 32GB.

This unit measures 7.2 x 4.7 x 2.4 inches. That’s a perfect size to conceal from anybody looking from outside the vehicle.

The GiiNii GD-161 automatically detects incidents and accidents, and locks all related footage.

So besides being a single channel dash cam, the GD-161 varies from the GD-188X in that the latter (GD-188X) has a motion sensor for parking mode but the GD-161. It could also use a better user manual. Other than those two small drawbacks this dashboard camera is definitely one of the best in the GiiNii brand.
